Pencil develops an AI Operating System for marketing, designed to help enterprise brands create and scale advertising content. Founded in 2018, the company's platform aggregates AI models from providers including OpenAI, Google, Adobe, Runway, and Bria into a unified orchestration layer, allowing brands to generate text, images, and video ads without being locked into a single vendor. The system reports achieving 50% reductions in creative production costs and 79% improvements in return on ad spend (ROAS) for its users.
The platform operates across 24 markets simultaneously and includes enterprise-grade governance controls. Pencil holds SOC 2 Type II certification and provides full IP indemnification. Its architecture enables human-in-the-loop creative workflows, and a no-train policy ensures that customer data is never used to train AI models.
In 2023, Pencil was acquired by The Brandtech Group, with both companies sharing the stated goal of making AI the default tool in advertising while maintaining a role for creative professionals.
